I was Chief of Staff to the CEO of AOL earlier in my career and found it to be an incredible vantage point from which I could understand the whole business and be helpful in a variety of ways. As noted above, a good chief of staff is a force multiplier and reach extender for the CEO. It is also a great platform from which you can move into a functional role afterwards, bringing credibility, relationships throughout the organization and a perspective on the entire business
